Thank you Garett Warning for the new Wilton Township Sign, the project is now completed with beautiful landscaping!
Garett's Story:
My name is Garett Warning. I live in Wilton Center and am a sophomore at Peotone High School. My career in Scouting started in 2005 as a Tiger in Cubscouts. My older brother, Shane was in Scouts and that made it easier for me to decide to join. My mom was a leader in my den so I didn't miss many meetings. I really liked my group and when I finished Cubscouts I received the Heavy Shoulders award that is given to boys who complete every available award in the program. After Cubscouts, if you want to continue, you "crossover" into Boyscouts . My crossover is still a happy memory for me. I joined Troop 12 in New Lenox along with a few of my friends. My brother was already in 12 so I really wasn't going anywhere else. Not everyone that joins Boyscouts has to become an Eagle. However, my brother made Eagle Scout so I knew I would give it my best shot also. We meet every Tuesday all year around. I was very active and quickly advanced through the ranks. With help from older scouts and adults in the Troop I became a Life Scout. Eagle Scout is the only rank above Life and is the hardest to achieve.
My decision to do my Eagle Service Project in Wilton Center was easy for me. Our family moved there from New Lenox and I went to school and was a Road Runner. I like living in Wilton Center. I can do things guys who live in subdivisions can't do. I have great friends here and my mom, dad and brother do also. Wilton Center is my home and I want it to look nice. I never thought that the brown sign on the phone box on the community building was good. Our family friend, Mrs. Brott is one of the building managers and I contacted her to see if I could possibly put up a nicer sign. I met with Mrs. Brott, Mrs. Kinsella and Mrs Tsillis to give them my proposal. They were very helpful and easy to work with. That is a very important part of an Eagle project is having people that are willing to work with the scout. From the first meeting with the managers to the completion of my project it took almost a full year. My parents have stood beside and helped me during this project. I had many people donate money for the project. Without their help I could not afford to have done this job. I also had the help of many of my fellow Troop 12 Scouts and some of their parents for the actual work at the site. I am thankful to everyone that contributed to this project. I am glad the project turned out nice. I wanted to help the town of Wilton Center just like moving here helped me.
